The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly everyone around the world. Yet God’s grace and love continually shine through even the darkest of clouds.

This is how one man in Ukraine found the truth of the Bible, thanks to our generous partners. Sergey*, 79, lives on the 14th floor of an apartment building where he has been bedridden for over a year due to illness. He depends on the goodwill of others to receive the basic supplies he needs to survive.

Sadly, the effects of the quarantine make it even more difficult than usual for Sergey to receive visitors. Anyone in his position would feel isolated, vulnerable, and desperate for hope. But because Sergey never had a Bible of his own before, he was unable to turn to God’s Word for comfort.

“I’d never encountered the Bible before,” Sergey says. “I felt that there had to be something greater in life, but I always ignored those quiet appeals of my soul.”

So, when volunteers brought Sergey food and supplies, along with a New Testament portion made possible by our gracious financial partners, Sergey read it with an open heart and an open mind. Sergey burst into tears as he finally received the truth he had been yearning for.

“God had to reach the hard-hearted like me through the pandemic,” he says.

Ukraine was already one of the poorest countries in Europe, but the lasting impact of the pandemic is expected to raise the poverty rate by nearly 20 percent. Millions of vulnerable people like Sergey will long to turn to God, if only they have His Word.

Many thanks to our gracious partners for bringing the Good News of the Bible to people in Ukraine like Sergey.
