In Cameroon’s far north region, large gatherings can be deadly. Terrorist groups use every occasion to strike a murderous blow to as many people as possible.

But recently, an unprecedented crowd of 5,000 Kapsiki speakers braved danger to welcome the launch of the first Bible in their language. The crowd of joyful believers lined the streets in a town close to the Nigerian border waiting for the Bibles to arrive.

Excitement grew to a fevered pitch when the convoy carrying their new Bibles pulled into the village. They sang and danced late into the night.

The next day everyone wore their best outfits and gathered in the local stadium for the launch. The official ceremony included government, religious and military authorities and members of the Kapsiki community from different towns and villages in Cameroon. After, the crowds hurried to get copies of God’s Word in their language for the first time.

“It is something to be proud of,” says Faveu clutching his Bible. “This will be my pillow. I’ll read it every day, all the time!”

Please join us in praying for the Kapsiki people of Cameroon — that they will learn and grow in their faith by reading God’s Word in their own heart language. And please pray for their safety as they serve God in one of the most dangerous regions of the world.
