Do you love the Bible? Well here’s some exciting news. On November 29, 2020, you are invited to express your love for Scripture as we celebrate International Day of the Bible.

International Day of the Bible is part of National Bible Week. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt first declared National Bible Week in 1941 during World War II. After one of the worst foreign attacks on American soil, Americans were comforted through the reading of Scripture by the National Bible Association on radio stations across the nation. Since then, every president has declared the week of Thanksgiving, National Bible Week.

Today, International Day of the Bible is a public declaration of our thankfulness to God for his Word that offers hope, guidance, and strength. This year, as the world grapples with the pandemic and escalating tension and unrest, we celebrate God’s Word which still provides comfort in difficult times.

How You Can Participate

At noon, millions will take a moment to meditate, reflect, and share what God’s Word means to them. Here are three ways you can take part in this worldwide Bible celebration:

  • Read God’s Word daily. Make a commitment to spend more time engaging with the Scriptures. Follow a daily Bible reading plan.
  • Speak God’s Word boldly. When God’s Word goes forth, it does everything God intends it to do (Isaiah 55:11). There is power in his Word. And there is power when we speak his Word. Download the Bible 2020 app to join a world-wide community speaking the words of the Bible together.
  • Pray God’s Word reaches people still waiting for it. There are approximately 165 million people who do not have one verse of Scripture in their own language. You can pray for the Bible to be translated for approximately 1700 languages so their wait can be over.

Let’s Pray Together

God, thank you for your Word which offers hope in every season. Please increase our hunger to read your Word. Help us to build our lives upon its truths. And we pray for the completion of Bible translation projects so all may have the chance to experience its life transforming power.
