Some experiences in life are so painful they cause deep and lasting suffering or trauma. For the people of Uganda, physical, emotional, and spiritual trauma has come in the form of war, acts of terrorism, domestic abuse, poverty, disease, and displacement. In some areas of Northern Uganda, an estimated 70 percent of the population suffer with long-lasting, deep-rooted trauma.
These hurting communities are in desperate need of help. And today, the church is responding with the love of Christ.
The Church Offers Hope for the Hurting
Bible-based trauma healing is helping local churches bring the healing power of God’s Word to the suffering in their communities. Trained facilitators lead story-centered, group-focused, and Scripture-based sessions. People are invited to share their stories of pain with each other as they learn how to apply God’s healing truth to their lives. Survivors exchange their deep pain for eternal hope in Jesus Christ.
These trauma healing sessions are also playing on the radio, extending the reach of God’s healing love even further. Stories, music, and Bible verses play over radio waves, offering listeners an opportunity to call in and find a local healing group. Thirteen pre-recorded episodes are airing on stations in Central and Northern Uganda.
And it’s making a difference! Ugandans are encountering God’s healing presence. Since 2017, over 4,000 people have participated in healing groups, and 233 episodes have aired on eight radio stations. But we are believing for more! We are praying that by the end of 2020:
- 9,000 individuals attend trauma healing groups and find healing
- 500 leaders and pastors complete training to lead healing groups in their churches
- 100 churches establish trauma healing ministries
- 5 million listeners participate in the trauma healing radio program
Let’s Pray Together:
God, we thank you for the role of the church in bringing your healing to those suffering in Uganda. We pray that many more churches in Uganda will deliver trauma healing to their local communities. We ask you to spiritually and emotionally heal the people of Uganda through your Word.
