We need your prayers—because over the course of the next two years, we’re asking God to move mightily in the lives of hurting women across the Philippines.
According to the Philippine Commission on Women, the number of violent incidents occurring against Filipino women has been increasing each year at a staggering rate. In 1997, there were 3,687 cases reported. By 2013, that number climbed to 23,865. The prevalence of physical, sexual, and emotional violence has made violence against women one of the country’s most pervasive social problems.
Many victims of violence live with lasting shame. Although physical wounds heal with time, emotional and spiritual scars can last a lifetime.
Philippine Bible Society is reaching out to women suffering from the traumatic effects of violence and abuse by leading them through Bible-based trauma healing. Trained facilitators lead participants through a curriculum based on over 320 verses of Scripture. Participants bring their suffering into the light of God’s Word, sharing their stories with one another and with God.
By the end of 2019, more than 75,000 women in 15 provinces of the Philippines will have the chance to let go of pain and embrace God’s love through Bible-based trauma healing.
It is our prayer that through this ministry, Filipino women will find comfort in God’s Word and experience “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10).
