Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Every year, my family’s thanksgiving dinner tradition includes sharing something we are grateful for around the table. We look back over the year and share reasons, both big and small, of which we are especially thankful.
Growing friendships, the blessing of a new job, the little league team, morning coffee rituals, quality time with loved ones, the ability to run at the track, a miraculous healing or discovering a new hobby. The list could go on. Following this rich time of sharing (and eating) we conclude this time feeling “full” in every way as we connect in a posture of gratitude.
In the good and bad times in life, there is reason to give thanks. The Bible calls us to gratitude as a form of faith, obedience and worship. First Thessalonians 5:18 assures us, “be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus” (GNT). Practicing gratitude can ignite our prayer life, increase our joy, and lead us closer to God.
If God’s Word calls us to be thankful in all circumstances, why does it feel so hard sometimes? In this snapshot, we share about the power of gratitude and why it can be challenging – but especially important – in difficult circumstances. You’ll hear from the American Bible Society Prayer Team as we share about the power of gratitude and pray for you. You’ll also receive a heartfelt word of thanks from American Bible Society’s President and CEO Robert L. Briggs. And as promised in Episode 4, here’s your copy of “The Power of Gratitude: A 5-Day Journey”.
