I don’t always make the right decisions. Sometimes, while scrambling to complete my daily tasks, I say “yes” to a commitment I can’t handle. Sometimes, while eating out with my friends, I order too much food—and spend more money than I want to spend.

But when faced with bigger, scarier decisions, the right choice doesn’t always seem so obvious. Do I accept a new job offer, or stay in my current role? Do I re-sign my lease, or leave my apartment in search of a new adventure?

Recently, I found myself torn between two sides of a difficult decision. I weighed the pros and cons, sought the advice of mentors and asked God for direction—only to make a decision I quickly regretted. Almost immediately, I wanted a do-over. I wanted an opportunity to rewind and reconsider my choice, using my experience to create a different outcome.

In these situations, I often think tirelessly about the past, wondering why I made one decision and not the other. But I don’t want to live this way.

Instead, I want to fall on my knees and surrender to God’s wisdom, understanding that he knows more about my life than I’ll ever know. And I want to seek him for peace, even when my decision leaves me feeling anxious and unsettled.

If you’re searching for a fresh start today, turn to God’s Word for peace. These four Bible verses will get you started:

  1. John 16:33 (CEV)
I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world.
  2. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (CEV)
I pray that the Lord, who gives peace, will always bless you with peace. May the Lord be with all of you.
  3. Isaiah 26:3-4 (CEV)
The Lord gives perfect peace to those whose faith is firm. So always trust the Lord because he is forever our mighty rock.
  4. Philippians 4:6-7 (CEV)
Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.
