The experience of caring for a sick loved one can feel all-consuming. Run to the store. Pick up snacks. Pick up flowers. Take the kids to soccer practice. Get back to the hospital by 5:00. Drive home and put the kids to bed.
In the craziness of caring for our loved one, family and responsibilities, we often forget to take care of ourselves. Meanwhile, we have an anxious pit growing in our stomach and bags under our eyes from a lack of sleep. But what can we do? We care deeply about this person. And slowing down hardly feels like an option. So we keep on running until we can barely run anymore.
If you’re caring for a sick loved one today, you’re probably familiar with this whirlwind of events. And you might be feeling tired, overwhelmed, worried and afraid. But in the midst of your experience, you don’t have to fight your emotions alone. Instead, you can turn to God’s Word for reminders of his peace and hope. And you can rely on God for the strength you so desperately need.
These four Bible verses will get you started:
Philippians 4:13 (GNTD)
I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.
Exodus 15:2 (GNTD)
The Lord is my strong defender; he is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will sing about his greatness.
Isaiah 41:10 (GNTD)
Do not be afraid—I am with you! I am your God—let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.
Joshua 1:9 (GNTD)
Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.
