I’ll never forget coming down the stairs and seeing my 9-year-old son crying on the couch. For the next hour, I sat and listened as he shared his thoughts and emotions with me.

“I feel like an arm or leg has been cut off,” he said. That was the best way he could describe his grief. The coronavirus had taken away his friends, school, sports activities. It completely rearranged his world! He asked questions, vented his frustrations and, at times, just sat silent. I can honestly say that was one of our lowest points during this time of quarantine but we got through it together.

Like many of us, kids are experiencing the emotional ups and downs of this global pandemic. They are desperate for security in a time of unknowns. Yet so many children struggle to process their emotions in a healthy way.

Bible-Based Trauma Healing Resources for Families

To provide spiritual support for children and their families in this difficult moment, American Bible Society’s Trauma Healing Institute has created a resource called Peace, Be Still. A Family Guide to Living in Crazy Days. This six-part resource, intended for use with children ages 8-12, will help you help your children feel safe during this time of uncertainty and change. It offers biblical and practical resources and age-appropriate activities to help children address and express their feelings.

Children are also given an opportunity to release their worries to God. They read passages of Scripture that help build their faith in a God who loves them and wants to give them peace during this difficult time.

We are praying that children everywhere will experience God’s comforting presence now and long after this pandemic. Will you join us?

Let’s Pray Together:

God, we pray for children around the world affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask you to comfort those dealing with grief. We also pray that you’ll use this resource to help children connect with the healing power of Scripture.
