You pull into the driveway, turn off the car engine, and place your head on the steering wheel. You don’t want to go inside. Because you know that, once you step through the front door, you’ll be hit with reminders of all the things that need to get done that you just don’t have the money for.
You’ll see the broken handle, the bathtub that should have been fixed five years ago, the empty fridge, the bills on the table. And you just don’t have the energy to handle it today. You don’t want to think about all the things you can’t afford to fix and all the problems that seem unsolvable without more money.
When the bank account is close to zero, when the bills keep piling, when furniture breaks, and loan interest grows, it can feel like you’re burying yourself in a hole you’ll never being able to climb out of.
If you’re overwhelmed by the weight of financial anxiety today, I encourage you to take a few moments to silence your mind and pray through these verses of comfort and hope with me:
Lord, it’s hard for me to feel anything but stressed and overwhelmed today. I keep thinking about all the things I can’t afford to fix or do. Show me that you see me and hear my anxious thoughts.
The LORD is there to rescue
all
who are discouraged
and have given up hope.
The LORD’s people
may suffer a lot,
but he will always
bring them safely through. — Psalm 34:18-19 (CEV)
God, I want to trust in you. Remind me that you love me and that you are in control.
Even if I go through the deepest darkness,
I will not be afraid, LORD,
for you are with me.
Your shepherd’s rod and staff protect me.
You prepare a banquet for me,
where all my enemies can see me;
you welcome me as an honored guest
and fill my cup to the brim.
I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life;
and your house will be my home as long as I live. — Psalm 23:4-6 (GNTD)
Lord, thank you for loving me no matter what. Show me how to trust in your goodness even when life seems overwhelming and uncertain. Thank you for offering me rest.
Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. — Philippians 4:6-7 (CEV)
