Introduction

Isaiah 2:1–5: In today’s reading, Isaiah describes how God will draw new people from all the world’s nations to his Temple in Jerusalem. They will come and learn and walk in the ways of the LORD. The reading features a vision of the future Jerusalem and everlasting peace. It concludes with a call to God’s current people of Israel to walk in the light of God’s teachings.

Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 2:3b

He will teach us what he wants us to do; we will walk in the paths he has chosen.

Reading

Here is the message which God gave to Isaiah son of Amoz about Judah and Jerusalem:

In days to come
the mountain where the Temple stands
will be the highest one of all,
towering above all the hills.
Many nations will come streaming to it,
    and their people will say,
“Let us go up the hill of the Lord,
to the Temple of Israel’s God.
He will teach us what he wants us to do;
we will walk in the paths he has chosen.
For the Lord’s teaching comes from Jerusalem;
from Zion he speaks to his people.”

He will settle disputes among great nations.
They will hammer their swords into plows
and their spears into pruning knives.
Nations will never again go to war,
never prepare for battle again.

Now, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light which the Lord gives us!

Reflect

Reread verses 2–4. What were your thoughts as you read these words? How do you envision what is described? In what ways does your life demonstrate that you “walk in the paths [God] has chosen” (verse 3)?

Pray

Merciful God, I repent of my sinful ways and offer you a humble and contrite heart. Teach me what you want me to do so that I may walk in your light. Amen.

And now, join us in praising God that the gospel message is reaching people in remote jungle and mountain regions of Peru. Loving God, thanks to the support of Bible-A-Month Partners, audio Bibles in the heart language of the Quechua Ayaucho people are helping them learn more about you. They listen to your Word while taking care of their sheep and llamas. Church school teachers are overjoyed at receiving Scripture materials that can be shared with the children they teach. Praise to you, Lord God, that many isolated groups in Peru are learning about Jesus, putting their faith in him, and eagerly sharing the gospel message with their families and neighbors. Amen.
