The Bible Society in Nigeria is celebrating the launch of the Deaf Bible Translation Center. “I am so happy — the Deaf can now hear God!” said Pastor Luke Bello, who is deaf himself.

A team of translators is continuing to translate Bible stories in Nigerian Sign Language (NSL) — the heart language of most of the country’s one million Deaf people.

“I wondered how Deaf people could ever truly understand God and His love for them,” Bello said. “But now we will use these Bible stories in our language to teach them. We have waited for so long for this, and I am so glad to witness this moment!”

Thanks to the faithfulness of American Bible Society friends, the Nigerian Deaf community will soon be able to learn of God’s love and care for them in their heart language.
