Ah, Mother’s Day. It’s the day when hard-working mamas get to hear what they long for most: “I love you, Mom.” “Thanks for everything you do for me.” “You’re the best.”

But, treasure that handwritten card as you may, these expressions aren’t always what spring to mind the other 364 days of the year.

On those days, moms must often depend on a different kind of encouraging word: the Bible. Scripture is full of truths that parents can turn to day in and day out, finding peace and joy. But these promises can be hard to remember.

That’s why parenting is a much-revisited topic on
Blog.Bible, a collection of Bible reflections from American Bible Society staff. There, you can find messages written by moms, for moms—those familiar with both the challenges of parenthood and the wisdom found in Scripture:

When you’ve lost your temper—again

“The day-to-day stuff wore me down. I yelled. I was impatient. The list of failings that I kept in my head threatened to overwhelm me with guilt.”

God’s Word for You: “The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise.”—Lamentations 3:22-23

When others criticize your parenting

“What is it with parent-shaming, anyway? It’s devastating to be judged for something you put your heart and soul into.”

God’s Word for You: “Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.”—Romans 12:12

When you feel like you’re not enough

“If I’m honest, I feel like I’d be a better mother if I had help. There’s just not enough of me to go around. I’m no superwoman, and I don’t have what it takes to thrive by myself.”

God’s Word for You: “But he replied, ‘My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.’ I am most happy then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ’s power over me.”—2 Corinthians 12:9

So, moms, enjoy today and treasure its memories. Rejoice in the blessing of motherhood, and savor precious time with your children. And the next time you hit a parenting snag, turn to Scripture for the ever-present peace and joy that are available to all God’s children, if we only remember to seek it.
