For the first time in the long history of the church in Ethiopia, Tigrigna language speakers have a Bible of their own! The Ethiopia Tigrigna Bible is just one of 50 recently completed translations. These new translations have the potential to provide first Bibles to 160 million people!
Initially, 57,000 Tigrigna Bibles were distributed. Church leaders share, “Now God has come to the villages of the people in the form of the Word, because this will enable them to stand firm in their faith and bring more souls to Jesus Christ.”
The need is still great. Many Tigrigna-speaking believers are still waiting for their first copy of God’s Word in their heart language. There are 42,000 church leaders, each with an average congregation of 50 people, still waiting for their first Tigrigna Bible. Church leaders are praying that American Bible Society will make that possible soon.
As one church leader says, “I have been reading from the Bible given to me for hours—day and night. I can’t part from the sweet Word. By reading it I have understood what my role is. With the Bible in my language I am determined to teach the way of salvation to all of the people in my care.”
