Emine* always felt something was missing from her life.
Growing up in extreme poverty in rural Liberia, she had no running water or electricity. Her family and entire community clung to the practice of witchcraft. But it gave her no relief.
“I always felt something was missing within me,” she says. “I have always felt empty. And because of the witchcraft, I was always treated with fear and stigma.”
Then, one day, Emine heard something that changed her life . . . the hope of God’s Word!
Emine saw people attending church with books in their hands and was curious. She attended an audio study group made possible by the support of American Bible Society financial partners. The program shares the message of Jesus Christ through audio Scripture listening groups.
“When I was told that there was a talking Bible that explained God’s Word in my language, I decided to stay that evening to join the listening group. That was my first time listening to the audio Bible,” Emine shares. “What amazed me was to see a talking Bible that speaks my language, Kisi! It was so exciting to hear God’s Word in my language.”
In the study group, Emine learned that, “God is merciful and willing to forgive my sins once I give my life to Him. At that moment, my hope was restored!”
She says, “I am grateful to the Bible Society for the wonderful work they are doing for us by providing the talking Bible. My prayer is that they will be able to help others, that they too will be able to hear God’s Word.”
