About 47,000 people live in remote villages throughout Colombia’s Amazon region in South America. They represent roughly 26 different indigenous ethnic groups with dozens of different spoken languages.

Last year, our partners help reach thousands of men, women, and children in these remote river villages with Bibles, audio Bibles, and the JESUS Film! The Bible Society partnered with local pastors to travel deep into the Amazon River jungle — even when it meant venturing through dangerous territories controlled by armed guerrilla forces — to deliver the Good News. Many who received Bibles for the first time were overwhelmed with tears of gratitude for their answered prayers.

Pastor Rodrigo* helped distribute Bibles in several villages. When he ran out, seeing the desperate need that remained, he even gave away his own personal Bible, as did his wife.

The generosity of our faithful parners was especially meaningful to Gabriela Delgado*, who lives with her family in a refugee village on the Amazon River. Her parents only speak the Ticuna language, so the opportunity for them to watch the JESUS Film in their heart language was, in Gabriela’s words, “An answer to my prayers!” In another village where audio Bibles were distributed, a villager thanked us, saying, “There are communities without a pastor, and the audio Bible is like a pastor.”

Pastor Angelo Peña* distributed Bibles and gathered together both young and old to watch the JESUS Film. He shares, “We are very grateful to the Bible Society and pray that they do not forget us, because there is a huge need in this part of the Amazon.”

We will not forget, and with the continued help, we will be able to send many more Bibles to these indigenous groups in South America and beyond!
