Although Spanish is the official language, many people are shocked to discover that there are 68 language groups in Mexico. Of these, just seven have the full Bible.

Mexicans whose mother tongue isn’t Spanish often have difficulty understanding God’s Word — and long to hear God speak to them in their heart language.

In 2014, the Bible was translated in the Mixe language and was printed and distributed to the Mixe people of Mexico. These testimonies are just a few examples of what a blessing it was for so many people to have God’s Word:

  • “I am happy because I understand better the Scripture message in Mixe than Spanish and I see the older ones now understanding the message.” — Anacely
  • “The Mixe Bible gives me three benefits: the Bible gives me guidance, it orients me, and it helps me to serve better. It helps me to share the Word with my friends and other people.” — Maria*
  • “When I read the Bible in Spanish I only understood a little, but now I understand more. I am learning to read in Mixe from the Bible. The Bible will help us as family to deal with conflict in the family as we learn the Word of God. The Bible helps strengthen us.” — Clara

With support from our financial partners, American Bible Society is working to translate the Bible in all the world’s language by the year 2026.

We are grateful for their help to bring the Word of God to believers in Mexico. Through their continued support, American Bible Society will help more people connect with Scripture by translating the Bible into a language they can understand.
