The COVID-19 outbreak is not the first time that American Bible Society has been a first responder in a time of crisis. Our financial partners have been answering the call to help those in urgent need since the time of our founding in 1816. From the Civil War to the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-19, through two world wars, hurricanes, earthquakes, and the devastating terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, they’ve been there for the hurting and the vulnerable. They’ve brought hope, help, and comfort to some of the darkest corners of our world, during some of its darkest days.
Today, as the Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc here in the United States and in countries around the world, we once again face the challenge to respond on a global scale. In these difficult times, many are fearful. Many others feel lonely, abandoned, and exhausted.
Millions remain concerned about the safety of their families and loved ones. Still others are sick, hospitalized, and even dying from COVID-19. Many cry out, “Where is God in all this?”
Our supporters have answered the cry of spiritually-famished hearts.
From the earliest days of the crisis, in January, they’ve helped galvanize American Bible Society into action. They rushed help to places devastated by the crisis and made it possible to translate our publication, Beyond Disaster, into multiple languages.
As partners continue to help, American Bible Society will deliver Bibles and Scripture resources into the outstretched hands of many who desperately need comfort for their troubled hearts and the eternal hope that comes only from knowing Jesus. Many parts of the U.S. have been hit hard by the Coronavirus outbreak, including the cities of New York City, Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia, and we are so thankful for our partners for giving generously to share hope from God’s Word!
