While serving with the Armed Forces in the Korean and Vietnam wars, Dale Akins received two Bibles from American Bible Society after an officer left a box of them in the control room of his submarine. Dale was stationed at a pier in Manhattan before leaving for a 56-day patrol off the Russian coast in the Bering Strait. “I read that Bible most every day,” said a nostalgic Akins, “my daughter still has that copy I carried all over the world.” From Korea to North Africa, wherever Akins was called to serve, his Bible went with him. Learning to trust God through the reading of his Word, Dale Akins recalls the bold statement of a life enriched by the Bible: “I remember my last entry in that Bible. It said: ‘Finally found the safe harbor, now I am safely anchored.'”
