Zhao was burning paper to honor the dead as part of the Buddhist Qingming festival when his sisters, who had become Christians, began to share the truth of God’s Word — and their hope of eternity — with him. He listened carefully and decided to accompany his sisters to their church the following week.
When other church members asked Zhao about his interest, he simply replied, “I want to know what God is and about this Good News my sisters are talking about.” The church embraced Zhao, and in time, he accepted Jesus as his Savior.
Longing to learn more, Zhao hesitantly asked if he could borrow a Bible to take home and study. However, he had never attended school or learned to read — he could only recognize a few basic words. But God began to do a miraculous work in Zhao’s life! As he continued to study, he was able to read and understand more and more of the words of Scripture.
Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, Zhao eventually received his very own Bible — and he was thrilled. Before long, the once illiterate man had finished reading it from cover to cover! With great joy, Zhao shares, “I see this as a work of God to allow a man my age to become literate. It is marvelous to know that I learned to read from a Book written by God.”
